National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Week is being recognized and a Wapello animal feed distributor is helping to raise awareness and money for the cause.
MS is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. To raise funds for research to find a cure, Hanson Farms is donating 50 cents from every bag of feed sold in March to the National MS Society. Owner Brandon Hanson says they knew they wanted to help causes like MS when they started distributing feed in July of last year, “At the time we embarked upon that, we came to the idea that once a quarter we would find an organization and attempt to give back. My wife has had MS for five years so we chose them as our first group to give back to.”
Hanson says their operation began with poultry feeds, but has expanded their product lines for dairy, goats, and pet foods, including Hubbard feeds which is matching the 50-cent donation for each Hubbard bag sold. He says their fundraising goal was about $500, but they’re on pace to double that amount.
