From the police chief locked in the “dog pound” to a face-painted mayor, nothing was off limits or off-leash for a social media fundraising event Wednesday at the PAWS & More Animal Shelter in Washington.

Kris Rotonda live streamed from the shelter from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., as part of Jordan’s Way, a 50-state campaign to increase pet adoptions and donations for animal shelters, for which he’s so far visited 18 states and 73 shelters. Familiar local faces took part in the livestream to help generate donations, including Mayor Jaron Rosien, who had the words “Adopt Me” painted on his forehead, “The mission is solid at PAWS & More. I have an animal from here, there’s animals that can be adopted. There are three puppies in there that’ll be available for adoption in a couple of weeks so just to raise awareness for people of this shelter right here and what it has to offer.”

Rotonda has been on his cross country tour for five months, which was inspired by his dog Jordan who he adopted from a shelter and later died from cancer in 2018. He has about 70,000 Facebook followers, and he shares why he believes people have connected with his mission, “I think there’s a lot of transparency, a lot of people don’t know how the shelters look, how they work, the amazing people that run it. I think people think that dark connotation about shelters and then when I put them on Facebook Live people are seeing such a lightheartedness of the people. And then there’s the bleeding hearts over what they’re seeing, like the dogs in kennels, they don’t want to see that. So they’re actually connecting and they’re more intrigued than ever to watch because they want to see all these different shelters in different states.”

The fundraiser has raised over $6,000 as of Wednesday, and the shelter has brought in several dogs from other shelters and as far as Texas this week to help find their forever home. You can find more information to donate or adopt by visiting here.
