Every season for every sport is full of excitement when opening day rolls around. For track enthusiasts though, the excitement for today might be at an all time high. For the first time in two years, there is an outdoor track meet and Columbus Community will host tonight to kick off the new campaign.
The Wildcats participated in one indoor meet on March 8th and 9th at the Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls. Kaden Amigon was a top performer for the boys with a 26th place finish in the long jump with a leap of 18’11 and his 7.5 seconds in the 60m dash ranked 33rd. Emma Milder led the girls placing 29th in the same event with a jump of 11’9’’. Michelle Diaz was 30th in the shot put with a heave of 30’0.5’’. Head Coach of the Wildcat girls Steve Riley tells KCII Sports this meet has grown throughout the years. “We have added to this meet. It used to be a girls only meet and had just a few teams, but now we are up to 10 schools and it is a boys meet as well. There is a lot of anticipation for it and it is going to be fun to start the season at home.”
Other teams expected to make the trip include area schools Highland and Hillcrest Academy along with Central Lee, English Valleys, Durant, New London, North Cedar, Tipton, and Van Buren.
The season gets started at 4:30 p.m. tonight at Columbus Community High School.
