The first COVID-19 death in about two weeks was confirmed in Washington County Thursday, bringing its total to 48 deaths.
The state dashboard shows that over a hundred deaths statewide have been confirmed in the last two weeks, bringing the total to 5,601. As of Thursday Washington has 2,549 total positive COVID-19 tests, while Iowa has 369,082 positive tests. The dashboard no longer shows 14-day average positive test percentages by county, but across Iowa the 14-day average rate is 4.0%, and as of Tuesday morning Washington County Public Health confirmed its rate was at 1.1%. Washington County Public Health is still working on vaccinating the 65 year and older population and tiers two through five of Phase 1B of the state’s vaccine plan, as well as Phase 1C which covers those 64 years and younger that have a medical condition that puts them at a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19. The county is holding its second dose, or boost, clinic tomorrow for those who received their first dose at the Parkside YMCA in Wellman from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
