The City of Washington is projected to receive $1 million from the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus bill signed into law by President Joe Biden Thursday.
The legislative package includes $350 billion in aid designed to replenish tax revenue collections that decreased during the pandemic for state and local governments. The allocation formula mostly relies on the number of unemployed cities in each state at the end of 2020, and for other local cities in Washington County, Kalona is projected to receive $350,000, Riverside would receive $140,000, and Wellman would receive $190,000. Iowa is projected to receive about $1.38 billion for state government, $612 million for counties, and $153 million in state capital projects.
The relief package also includes $1,400 direct payments to most Americans, extends a $300 per week unemployment insurance boost until September 6th, and expands the child tax credit for a year.
