The track will be full of action Tuesday in Wapello when the Indians and Arrows host their Wapello Relays. This is the first meet of the year for the Arrow girls. The Indian boys got the season started Friday at Case Field in Washington and the Steve Roth Relays. Wapello took the team title in the class C division with 159 points. They had eight championship events including Caden Thomas winning the 100, 200 and 400, Rhett Smith winning the championship in the discus and shotput, Briar Holmes winning the title in the 400m hurdles and championships for the shuttle hurdle relay team of Hector Zepeda, Griffin Mears, Elijah Belzer and Holmes and the sprint medley team of Zepeda, Mears, Tade Parson and Maddox Griffin.

The Columbus boys also ran at Case Field on Friday. The Wildcats were second behind Wapello with 100 points. The Wildcats had eight runner-up finishes Friday including Mason Hodges in the discus, Triston Miller in the long jump, Freddy Vergara in the 800 and two mile, Kaden Amigon in the 100, Isaac Acosta in the one mile, the shuttle hurdle team of Miller, Danny Martinez, Dante Zuniga and Garrett Palmer and the 4×100 team of Jose Vazquez, Miller, Jeff Hoback and Amigon. The Columbus girls ran at their home Wildcat Relays last week, finishing fifth of six teams with 61 points. Libby White won the discus to lead Columbus while Michelle Diaz was runner-up in the shot put and Averi Sipes second in the 1500.

Hillcrest Academy will also be in Wapello tonight. The Ravens participated at last week’s Wildcat Relays in Columbus Junction. The Raven boys were sixth in the team standings with 20 points led by the reigning JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Aaron Hershberger who won championships in the 110 and 400 hurdles. The Raven girls were sixth with 17 points. Madeline Fox was a winner in the 400 hurdles and took third in the 100 hurdles.

Joining those three area teams tonight in Wapello are Durant, Louisa-Muscatine, West Liberty and Wilton. Action starts at 4p.m. And continues into the evening in Wapello.
