Area girls’ track teams finally started the new campaign last night by traveling to West Burlington for the Falcon Relays. 

The meet was divided into two divisions with Washington placing fourth out of six in the Class A division with 75 points. Mount Pleasant ran away with the title with 143 points. Grace Voss had a strong debut by placing first in the 800m run in 2:40 and she also claimed fourth in the high jump (4’4’’). Other notable performances included Liaden Fillinger third in the 400m hurdles (1:19), Ally Rees had the fourth longest heave in the shot put (33’8’’), Molly Klinzman fourth in 100m hurdles (18.06), Iris Peterson fourth in 800m (2:52), the 4x800m relay team of Iris Peterson, Cloe Telleen, Tori Hinson, and Amelia Dahl nabbed second (12:01), and the distance medley relay team of Taylor Bartholomew, Sophia Kleese, Abby Kleese, and Grace Voss was also second (4:53). 

WACO competed in the B division and finished third out of six with 86 points while Pekin took home the gold with 196. Zoey Dennler nabbed second in the 400m hurdles (1:19) and third in the 100m hurdles (19.33), Molly McLaughlin was runner-up in the 100m hurdles (18.19), and Grace Coble was fourth in the shot (29’1.5’’). The 4x100m, sprint medley, and shuttle hurdle team all placed second in the relays. Winfield-Mt. Union was sixth with 33 points. Bradie Buffington owned the shot put winning with a heave of 34’5’’ and the sophomore also placed fourth in the discus (83’7’’). Keetyn Townsley was fourth in the 100m hurdles (19.67) and the 4x100m relay team of Avery Maeder, Annabelle Loveless, Codi Vaughn, and Keetyn Townsley was third (57.75).
