It’s an all-KCII area affair in Columbus Junction tonight when the Wildcats host a boys and girls golf triangular against the Washington Demons and Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. Mid-Prairie is the only one of the three teams to compete already this season, taking on Iowa City Regina in River Valley Conference action Monday. The Golden Hawk girls scored a win over Regina at Pleasant Valley 252-271 led by meet medalist Elliot Debler and her score of 60. The Mid-Prairie boys were beaten by the Regals 222-228 in Kalona. The Golden Hawk boys were led by Warren Scarff and his meet medalist runner-up round of 52.

The Washington Demon boys and girls will open their campaigns tonight in Columbus Junction. Neither has played in competition since 2019. Two years ago, the Demon girls finished the season at the state tournament, their sixth year in a row qualifying. Washington finished sixth overall shooting a 750 with Kiki Bruner taking fourth overall with a 36-hole score of 153. The Demons also have Josie Tanner and Emma Nichols returning from the team that made state in Ankeny. Rejoining the Demons is senior Anna Nacos who also played in Ankeny at the 3A state meet, but did so in 2019 with state champion Dubuque Wahlert. Nacos finished third in 3A with a 152 individual score. That group of seniors is joined by sophomores Makenna Conrad, Alecia Goff and Kaylin Long. The Washington boys were a .500 team in 2019 with a pair of all-conference players, Brock Sobaski and Brady Knutson qualifying for districts. Washington returns two players with varsity experience in juniors Grant Sobaski and John Prochaska with their 66 and 62 averages per nine holes respectively.

The Columbus boys and girls are getting their season started tonight on their home course. In 2019, the Wildcat boys were led by Tucker Bright with a 47 average per nine holes. Bright returns for his senior season in 2021. Also back are juniors Logan Bright and Robert Coil. The Columbus girls saw Aubrey Duncan qualify for the class 1A state meet in Marshalltown. She would go on to finish in 21st place. Duncan, Kayla Beenen and Gracie Morrison have all moved on through graduation, leaving senior Jobie Lekwa and her 52 average as the leading returner along with juniors Attie Hand and Vanessa Ayala. Action gets underway tonight at 4p.m. And continues into the evening at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Columbus Junction.
