The 2021 soccer season officially kicked off on Thursday for a pair of area boys’ teams and it was all Washington in a 9-1 march past Highland in Riverside.
Zac Stout got the scoring started in the first 11 minutes of the game with a goal and Emmanuel Raymundo made it 2-0 heading into half. The floodgates opened in the second half and it was spearheaded by a hat trick from Fabian DeJesus. Stout added one more goal, Cole Anderson found the back of the net twice, and Julian Marcelino rounded out the scoring. Brayan Arreola led the team with two assists. Demon Head Coach Sally Hart was pleased with the effort on opening night. “The team passed well throughout the field and controlled the pace of the match. It was a great way to return to the field after two years away.”
The Demons start up the season 1-0 and they are back on the road next Thursday at Fort Madison. Highland is 0-1 and they duel Hillcrest Academy on Tuesday.
