The first of four home meets for the WACO track teams on Tuesday ended with one area school capturing a team title.
The Lone Tree boys bested the five-team field with 118 points on the night. Three events took gold including Nick Staltzman in the 800m (2:16), Tyler Bell in the shot put (36’5.5’’), and the distance medley relay (4:17). Second place finishes included Alex Viner in the 100m (11.81) and long jump (18’9’’), Cale Christofferson in the 1600m (5:27), Staltzman in the 3200m (11:47), Cade Patterson in the 400m hurdles (1:03), Bell in the discus (118’4’’), the 4x400m relay (3:53), the shuttle hurdle (1:14), and sprint medley relay (1:44). WACO placed fourth with 77 points. Zach Schmitz had the fastest time in the 110m hurdles (18.38), the shuttle hurdle relay took the top spot (1:14), and the sprint medley relay (1:44). Other top performances included Braden Spain second in the 400m (54.51) and high jump (5’8’’), Hunter Hughes third in 3200m (12:06), Drew Diers second in shot put (35’5.5’’) and third in discus (92’3’’), and the 4x100m relay second (47.98).
The Warrior girls placed third out of eight teams with 103 points and Springville barely prevailed with 107. Molly McLaughlin won the 100m hurdles (17.70), Zoey Dennler was the fastest in the 400m hurdles (1:19), and the 4x100m relay also won (54.58). Dennler placed second in the 100m hurdles (18.50), Jocelyn Fulton second in the shot put (29’8.5’’), and the 4x200m relay second (2:03). Lone Tree was eighth with 24 points. Kasey Chown was second in the high jump (4’6’’), 4x200m relay third (2:06), and the 4x800m relay third (14:24).
