The Highland School Nurse is encouraging students, parents and staff to continue observing COVID-19 mitigation efforts as they head down the homestretch of the school year.

Cindy Peiffer says the district’s safety protocols have made 100% in-person learning possible since January 4th after using hybrid models the first six weeks of school as well as portions of November and December. She says getting to this point has been a group effort, “We’ve done so well, we’ve gotten so far because the people in the community have been very open, very supportive of the safety measures the school has put in place. They’ve been very respectful of the guidelines we have to follow as far as when they have to take their kids to the doctor and you know nobody wants to have their kid home in quarantine, but people have been understanding and respectful when those things need to happen so that we can continue to keep it safe.”

Masks are still required when a person is inside a district school building and Peiffer encourages parents with students 16 and older to get them vaccinated as soon as possible so they’ll be ready for school next fall.
