The Washington County Fair is about three months away, and the county 4-H schedule is getting increasingly busy with planning meetings for livestock and static events.

The next project meetings for dog and sheep projects are scheduled for this Saturday and April 22nd, respectively, and Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator Amy Green shares some other meetings that have been held in the past month, “March got busy, we had a big workshop weekend and we were doing all kinds of non-livestock workshops and then we also really kicked up our activity with livestock as well. Spring is also the time where many of those 4-H livestock projects would start and so this March we have done things with our swine department, bucket bottle department, rabbit department. They’ve all been meeting at different times in different ways to get information to kids.”

Green also mentions that an inaugural “4-H Fire Up” event held on March 28th for those younger and newer to the program was a success, educating 23 families on what kinds of projects they can participate in and more. Also coming up on the 4-H calendar is the Washington County Spring Preview Open Cattle Show on April 24th, which is open to youth 21 years old and younger, and occurs simultaneously with the 4-H pancake breakfast at the county fairgrounds.
