Washington County’s unemployment was unchanged from February to March.

Washington County had 4.8% unemployment in March, according to Iowa Workforce Development. Most contiguous counties’ rates decreased from February to March, with Henry at 4.1%, Jefferson at 4.4%, Johnson at 3.6%, and Louisa at 5.1%. Iowa County’s unemployment remained the same at 4.4% and Keokuk County’s rose to 5.3%. Most counties across the state had a higher unemployment this March compared to the same time last year, including Washington, whose unemployment rate was 3.3% in 2020. Iowa’s unemployment remained at 3.7% in March from the revised rate of 3.7% in February. The state’s jobless rate was 2.9% a year ago, and the number of unemployed Iowans increased in the last month from 60,700 to 60,900. Nationally the rate fell from 6.2% in February to 6% in March.
