After a sweep of Northeast Goose Lake and Prince of Peace on Friday in Wellman, the Mid-Prairie soccer teams take the pitch again on Monday. The Golden Hawk boys will be on the road to take on area school Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union. The Golden Hawks are 5-0 on the season after a 3-0 win over Prince of Peace Friday night where they were led by Owen Trimpe’s hat trick. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 8 in this week’s poll from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association for class 1A. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Owen Trimpe with eight goals. Ethan Trimpe and Zeus Fugate are tied with four assists each. In goal, Keaton Graber has worked 355 minutes with nine saves and an 81.8% save percentage.
Columbus is 5-1 on the season. The Wildcats were a 2-0 winner at Hillcrest Academy on Thursday with goals from Van Bawi and Oscar Alcala. Bryan Miranda turned in a clean sheet in goal. The Wildcats are receiving votes in this week’s class 1A poll from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. On the season, Columbus is led by Gary Molina with 17 goals, most in the state. Javier Panchillo has the team lead with three assists. In goal Miranda has made 16 saves in 400 minutes for an 88.9% save percentage. Columbus has won four of the last five meetings in the series with Mid-Prairie taking a 3-1 win at Columbus in 2019.
The Golden Hawk girls are 5-2 after a 5-0 shut out win over Northeast Goose Lake where Julia Boller led the way with a hat trick. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Esther Hughes with 12 goals. Kaitlin Martin has a team best four assists and in goal, Emily Swartzentruber has made 26 saves in 385 minutes for a 68.4% save percentage. Mid-Prairie will meet Union, La Porte City who is 1-4 on the season. They were beaten 3-0 by Hudson on Thursday. The Knights have been outscored in their first five matches of the season 19-5. On the year, they are led by Molly Grote with four goals. Alyssa Hatch has one assist and in goal Dacey Powell has 57 saves in 300 minutes for a 79.2% save percentage. This is the first meeting all-time between the two schools. Both matches start at 5p.m. with the boys in Columbus Junction and the girls in Wellman.
