Two KCII area girls soccer teams will face-off tonight when Mid-Prairie hosts Columbus. The Golden Hawk girls enter play with a 6-3 record, coming off of a 3-1 win at Mediapolis on Thursday. Esther Hughes scored twice and Sophie Baker once in the Hawks win. For the season, Mid-Prairie is led by 15 goals from Hughes, seventh most in class 1A. Kaitlin Martin leads Mid-Prairie with five assists. In goal, Emily Swartzentruber has made 44 stops with a 71% save percentage.
Columbus is 4-2 after a 3-1 win at West Liberty Thursday. The Wildcats got goals from Odalyz Valdez, Juvixsa Valdez and Alexa Alcala. Odalyz Valdez, Alcala and Aaliyah Santos each had an assist. For the year, the Wildcats are led by Juvixsa Valdez with eight goals, Aaliyah Santos with five assists and in goal it’s Alynna Leos with 74 saves and a 77.9% save percentage. Mid-Prairie has won 10 straight over the Wildcats including a 3-2 victory in 2019. Action starts at 5p.m. in Wellman.
