It was a busy night at Roth Field in Wayland for KCII area schools in the class 1A state qualifier track meet. In Class 1A only the champions automatically advance and while there were no automatic state meet qualifiers for any area teams on the boys side, top area finish came from the Columbus Wildcats in the team standings, taking seventh with 59.50 points. Lisbon won the team title with 140.50 points. Best finishes for the Wildcats came from Freddy Vegara as runner-up in the 3200 and Mason Hodges runner-up in the discus. Isaac Acosta was third in the mile, the 4×100 team of Jeff Hoback, Gerardo Orozco, Will Schwab and Kaden Amigon were fourth and Amigon in the 100 and 200, Triston Miller in the 100 hurdles and high jump and the 4×800 team of Tyler Humiston, Tim Hills-Carrier, Damian Vergara and Mason Hills-Carrier were all fifth.

The Winfield-Mt. Union boys were eighth with their score of 36 points. Top finishes were a pair of third places from Dane Sweezer in the 110 and 400 hurdles. Other finishes included fourth place each for the 4×100 team of Talon Newton, Cam Buffington Caleb Giese and Sweezer, the 4×800 team of Noah Sparrow, Gabriel Hemsworth, Lane Scorpil and Brody Barton and Cam Buffington in the long jump.

The Highland boys were ninth with 32 points. The 4×200 team of Kadin Jepson, Brenton Bonebrake, Tyler Thompson and Connor Grinstead led the way with a runner-up finish. Other top finishes for the Huskies included third for the 4×100 team of Jepson, Taylor Day, Tyler Thompson and Grinstead, fourth for Grinstead in the 200 and fourth for the sprint medley team of Jepson, Day, Thompson and Logan Bonebrake.

The WACO boys were 10th with 26.50 points. Simeon Reichenbach led the Warrior boys with a second place finish in the 110 hurdles. Other top finishes for WACO included third for the shuttle hurdle team of Isaac Oswald, Zach Schmitz, Mason Miller and Reichenbach and fourth for Braden Spain in the high jump.

The Sigourney boys were 11th with 25 points. Mason Moore had the best finish for the Savages taking third in the in the two mile. The Sigourney sprint medley team of Reid Molyneux, Peyton Leathers, Brayden Moffit and Colton Schwab were fifth.

The Lone Tree boys were 12th with 21 points. The Lions were led by the fifth place relays of the 4×400 with Nick Saltzman, Alberto Cortes, Andrew Gauley and Cade Shield and the distance medley of Cade Patterson, Alex Viner, Shield and Saltzman.

The Keota boys were 13th with 19 points. Wyatt Sieren had the best Eagle finish, taking runner-up in the 400. Brady Duwa was third in the long jump and Bryce Greiner fourth in the shot put.

The Hillcrest Academy boys were 13th 19 points. Aaron Hershberger posted a runner-up finish in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the 110 hurdles.

On the girls side of the meet, there were three automatic qualifier events. Winfield-Mt. Union will send their champion shuttle hurdle relay of Keetyn Townsley, Kayreanna Shower, Morgan Grelk and Kyndal Townsley to state with their 1:11.92 time and Jobey Malone in the shot put after her championship throw of 38’5.25 inches. The Highland girls were champs of the 4×400 with Taylor Sublette, Sarah Burton, Alyssa Clarke and Mackenzie McFarland crossing the finish in 4:26.78.

Top girls team finish came from Highland in fourth with 63 points. The Huskies were runners-up in the long jump with Sarah Burton and the 100 with Mackenzie McFarland. They took third in the discus with Jessica Kraus, the 4×100 with Mylei Smith, Sarah Burton, Katelyn Waters and Mackenzie McFarland and the 4×200 with Alyssa Clarke, Burton, Waters and McFarland. They were fifth in the 4×800 with Avery Pierson, Emma Soukup, Angelina Roling and Fiona Mahler and the shuttle hurdle with Pierson, Halle Hazelett, Courtney Chalupa and Adeline Kloepfer.

The Sigourney girls were sixth with 42 points. The Savages had Kaylee Weber finish runner-up in the shot put and fourth in the discus. Rain Barthelman was third in the 400 hurdles. The 4×800 team of Lana Thomas, Darby Mitchell, Ava Fineran and Madison Richard were fourth and so were the shuttle hurdle team of Barthelman, Amiya Smallwood, Mason Clarahan and Rylee Goldman.

Winfield-Mt. Union was seventh with 37 points. Kyndal Townsley was fourth for the Wolves in the 100 hurdles and Morgan Grelk fifth in the 400 hurdles.

WACO was ninth with 35 points. Molly McLaughlin was third in the 100 hurdles and the shuttle hurdle team of Zoey Dennler, Maggie Rinner, Katie Leichty and McLaughlin were third. Dennler was fourth in the 400 hurdles and fifth in the 100 hurdles.

The Columbus girls took 11th with 21 points. Libby White was runner-up in the discus, Michelle Diaz third in the shot put and Olivia Carrier fifth in the 200.
