In less than two weeks Washington High School’s Class of 2021 will be marking the end of their high school career, with the district, local businesses, and civic groups celebrating their achievements tonight.

The senior award and scholarship night will be held at 6 p.m. at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center. Superintendent Willie Stone says despite COVID-19 the district has had a successful year, especially with no building closures. Stone is glad that students have been able to participate in extracurriculars from athletics to speech, “The year overall has been amazing, there’s just been a few things that we’ve really missed out on. Homecoming parade was one of the things that we didn’t do, at that time guidance and mandates were in place that we didn’t feel it was right to do that and to be safe for kids. Besides that, we’ve really had most of our things, we had all of our dances, we’ve had those experiences that our kids get and want to have.”

One hundred sixteen Demons will be receiving their diploma during commencement at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 30th.
