The final step to reach the state boys’ golf meet is today when four KCII area schools will be represented at a Class 1A district in Iowa City.

Sigourney, Keota, Hillcrest Academy, and three Winfield-Mt. Union players will hit the course at Pleasant Valley in hopes to crack the field at next week’s state meet. Sigourney took care of their sectional last week in New Sharon with an 18-hole score of 354 with Josh Mohr collecting the best tally of 83 and Cade Streigle coming in third with 85. Other Savages competing today include Clay Morse, Brock Halleran, Levi Crawford, and Bo Schmidt. Keota placed second at Twin Lakes with a 358 including having all four scores in the top 10 led by Luke Hammen’s 85. Colten Clarahan, Max Johnson, Caden Sprouse, Sawyer Stout, and Cole Kindred round out the Eagles squad that qualified. WMU was two strokes shy from advancing as a team at that sectional, but they had three individual qualifiers in Brady Loyd, Jacob Kongable, and Isaac Schurr. Hillcrest Academy placed third at Knoll Ridge and London Schrock was a big reason why with a 86 to place fifth. Jace Rempel, Luke Schrock, Josiah Beachy, and Alex Niemeyer make up the Raven squad.

Teams must finish in the top two in order to advance and the next two individual scores on non-qualifying teams will also punch their ticket. The Class 1A state meet will be May 27th and 28th in Newton.

The district competition gets underway at 9 a.m. this morning in Iowa City.
