Southeast Iowa middle school track athletes competed at the Mike Henderson Junior High Boys and Girls State Track Meet earlier this month and a few individuals found success. 

The Washington girls had a handful of competitors and the seventh grade team had two relay champions including the 4x800m (10:59) of Addison Miller, Taylor Miksch, Adalyn Long, and Iris Dahl and the distance medley of Ryen Pepper, Leighton Salazar, Leighton Messinger, and Dahl (4:42). The team captured 41 points to place fourth out of 20 large class teams. Ella Greiner had the best finish for the eighth grade team placing fifth in the discus (87’9’’). 

In the seventh grade small class division Sigourney’s Kenzi Van Den Heuvel did some damage in the discus placing fourth (82’4’’) and Keota’s Olvia Lyle was fifth in the 100m (14.44). Lone Tree’s Rylee Shield had a big day in the eighth grade competition placing second in the 200m (28.56) and 400m (1:04.07). Josephine Moore of Sigourney placed fourth in the discus (73’4’’) and Kimi Clarahan was a top performer for Keota placing sixth in the 100m hurdles (18.87). 

A couple area boys teams ran and Isaac Bruns had Sigourney’s best eighth grade finish in the 200m dash placing fifth (25.56). Teammate Troy Klett was seventh in the 800m (2:27) for seventh grade. Keota’s 4x100m relay gave the eighth grade team some points by placing fifth. This squad consisted of Luke Moeller, Gavin Sieren, Caden Clarahan, and Ashton Galindo (51.12).

The girls meet was held in Gilbert and the boys in Grinnell.
