The Mid-Prairie softball team didn’t take the day off on the Memorial Day holiday, hosting the No. 3 ranked Mt. Vernon Mustangs in a non-conference contest at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona. The Mustangs got by the Hawks by a 4-0 score. Mount Vernon scored twice in the opening frame and once in the second to open up a 3-0 lead. They would add another insurance run in the fifth and ride pitching and defense to the finish line. Jenna Sprague threw a complete game, one-hitter, striking out 14 to record the win for Mt. Vernon. Myah Lugar recorded Mid-Prairie’s lone hit. In the circle, she threw seven innings, giving up 11 hits, four runs and striking out three. Mid-Prairie falls to 0-4 on the season.
