It’s a big day on the diamond for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams when they each entertain Durant. The Mid-Prairie baseball team enters action with a 3-0 record, sweeping West Liberty in a doubleheader, and beating Fairfield last week by a combined 30-3 score. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 4 in the first class 2A poll of the season released by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Golden Hawks sport a team batting average of .382 and a team ERA of 0.74. The Hawks are led by Kayden Reinier hitting .636 with seven total hits, six runs scored and five RBI. Alex Bean and Keegan Gingerich are both 1-0 on the mound and have not allowed a run.

The Durant Wildcats enter the contest with a 3-1 record. They won at Northeast Goose Lake in their last contest 14-4. The Wildcats are ranked No. 7 in class 2A in the first poll of the season from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. For the year, Durant is hitting .330 with a 3.36 team ERA. Individually, the Wildcats are led by Nolan DeLong with a .462 average, six total hits and eight RBI. Nate Dierickx is the ace of the staff with a 1-0 record, no runs allowed and 12 strikeouts in his first start of the year. Mid-Prairie has won four of the last five in the series, including a 5-4 win last season. The Golden Hawk softball team comes into the night looking for their first victory with an 0-4 record. They were beaten Monday by No. 3 Mount Vernon 4-0. The Hawks were held just one hit in the loss. On the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .311 with a team ERA of 8.26. At the plate the Hawks are led by Dakota Mitchell with a .438 average, with seven hits and three runs scored. Katelyn Schneider has driven in four. In the circle, Myah Lugar has thrown 26 innings with an 0-1 record and 7.09 ERA.

Durant enters with a 2-5 record. They were beaten Monday by Washington 8-4. The Wildcats are ranked No. 11 in class 2A in the first poll of the year from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They are hitting .330 as a team with an overall ERA of 7.00. Individually, they are led by Savannah Meinert with a .500 average and six hits. Hallie Collier has driven in five and scored four times. In the circle, Kennedy Jehle has worked eight innings with a 1-1 record and 4.20 ERA. Durant has won nine straight in the series and 16 of the last 20 including a 15-5 victory a year ago. Softball action starts tonight at 5p.m. at Carr, Vincent Gould Field in Kalona.
