The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams make the trip to Wapello Monday to take on the Indians and Arrows. The Hillcrest softball team is in search of their first win on the season with an 0-4 record after a 16-2 loss to Pekin in Kalona on Thursday. For the year, the Ravens are hitting .286 as a team with a 15.92 ERA. The Ravens are led at the plate by Esther Hughes with a .500 average, including six hits. Yani Gutierrez leads the Ravens with three RBI. Leah Bontrager has done all of the work in the circle this year for Hillcrest.

The Arrows are 3-5 on the year, losing to Highland 4-0 on Friday. For the year, the Arrows are hitting .291 as a team with a 2.74 staff ERA. They are led individually by Serah Shafer with a .478 average, 11 hits, six RBI and seven runs scored. In the circle Aliyah Lolling has a 2.13 ERA with a 1-2 record. These two teams met last season with Wapello taking a 6-3 victory. The Arrows have won 11 straight in the series.

The Hillcrest baseball team is 1-3 on the year after scoring their first 2021 victory on Thursday, taking down previously unbeaten Pekin 5-2. London Schrock, Jace Rempel and Liam Schrock each had an RBI in the win with London Schrock recording the victory on the mound, working five innings. On the year, the Ravens are hitting .178 as a team with a staff ERA of 3.11. At the plate they are led by Rempel with a .286 average with four hits and three driven in. On the mound, London Schrock is 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in nine innings.

Wapello is 2-3 this season. They were beaten on the road by Highland Friday 4-1. For the year, the Indians are hitting .273 as a team with a 3.42 overall ERA. They are led on the year by Casey Short with a .308 average. On the mound Owen Housman is 1-0 with a 1.40ERA. This week, Hillcrest head coach Danny Hershberger talked about things coming together for the Ravens to get their first win and what they need to do to continue the momentum. “If we come into the week with the same mindset that we used Friday to beat a tough Pekin team, we should be able to play well, get more wins and continue the momentum.”

These two teams met last season with the Ravens rolling to an 11-0 win. Hillcrest has won five straight in the series.
