It was an all-KCII area matchup in Kalona last night when the Hillcrest Academy summer teams welcomed Winfield-Mt. Union for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference showdown and both schools managed a split.

As heard on KCII, the softball game started with a bang for WMU by plating five first inning runs headlined by Jobey Malone with a tape measure shot to left center that brought in a couple tallies. That 5-0 advantage stayed true until the Wolves picked up four more in the seventh to secure a 9-0 win. The Wolves peppered nine hits led by Molly Miller going 3-for-5 with one RBI and Malone going 2-for-4 with a walk. Madie Anderson was her normal self in the circle throwing a complete game shutout giving up just two hits, two walks, and striking out 11. Malia Yoder went 2-for-2 with a walk and Leah Bontrager pitched all seven frames giving up nine runs on nine hits. The junior settled in after a rough first and at one point in the middle innings sent down 13 of 14 batters. WMU is now 8-1 and Hillcrest drops to 0-6.

The Raven baseball team returned the favor with a 13-3 victory in six innings. The score was tied at 3-3 in the third when Hillcrest Academy scored 10 unanswered including five in the fifth en route to the mercy-rule win. London Schrock led a 14-hit Raven offense with a monstrous performance going 4-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored. Grant Bender and Eli Ours each brought in a pair of runs. Ours tossed all six frames giving up three runs on four hits and striking out nine. Jacob Ford went 2-for-3 with a home run for WMU and Nick Crow took the loss on the bump with 10 runs given up, but only three were earned and nine hits allowed. Hillcrest is now 3-3 and Winfield-Mt. Union is 1-8.
