Youth in 4th-6th grades can learn how to build the skills, maturity, and confidence to safely stay home alone in a new workshop being hosted by Washington County Extension and Outreach.

Registration is open for “On Their Own and OK” happening on Thursday, June 24th from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the extension office at the Washington County Fairgrounds. ISU Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Program Specialist Cherry Sandeen says youth left home by themselves without self-care skills may find ways to occupy their time that parents or guardians may not support. Some young people may be fearful of staying home alone without adequate education from parents, teachers, and community partners. This workshop builds skills in youth, and incorporates ways for parents or guardians in the home to support this step toward independence. Cost is $20 which includes handouts, snacks, and materials.
