Washington will be the site for a national youth cattle show later this month.

The American Salers Junior National will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds from June 26-30. This is the 36th year for the event, and the fourth time it’s been held in Iowa. The show is open to ASJA members 21 years of age and younger, and ASJA Board President Abby Lingle says seven states will be represented at this year’s event. Lingle says two states had put in their bids to host this year’s show, and she shares what her board reviews when it comes to picking a site, “The things we look for to figure out our host town and host date is just kind of the space of the fairgrounds, if it can hold the amount of head that we need to bring in, kind of some restaurants around there. We also look for the educational purposes that can be brought to us and if we want to have a fun night, some fun activities we can do, and just those types of activities.”

Besides competing in different cattle breed shows and other events, the exhibitors will also get to partake in different social events through the week like a pool night and a tour of Bazooka Farmstar. There is no gate fee to attend the Junior National, and you can find a schedule by clicking here.
