Washington-area residents are asked to “don’t just sit there,” and put their creative minds to work for the Washington Chamber of Commerce’s Chair-a-Thon Auction.
The chamber is collecting repurposed, deconstructed, and decorated chairs that will be sold at an auction this July. Cost is $10 to enter, and all ages and levels of artists are encouraged to participate. Chamber Event Coordinator Alisha Davis says there will be other art-related events leading up to the auction, “It’ll be a fun week, we’re also going to do some community art events that week like painting in the park and yoga in the park, some kids painting activities through the library and RePurpose It. So we’re really going to celebrate this mural being painted and also have our Chair-a-Thon auction, which will be the first one that we do and it’ll be July 29th during farmers’ market.”
Don’t have a chair? RePurpose It in Washington has chairs and craft supplies you can purchase. Proceeds of this event will go toward an effort led by the chamber and the LET’s Center for the Healing and Creative Arts to commission painted murals around Washington. The first mural will be painted during the week of the auction on the east side of the State Theater, and was also supported by a $5,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
