Freshman Carly Goodwin controlled the action Monday night for the No. 5 Sigourney Savage softball team as they shut out Montezuma 6-0 in South Iowa Cedar League play. The freshman completed a no-hitter, striking out 14 Bravette batters. It was Goodwin’s second no-hitter in 48 hours as she did the same to Prairie City Monroe at Eddyville-Blakesburg Saturday in a 3-0 Sigourney win. The Savage offense did all of their work in the third inning, scoring six times. Jo Moore belted a grand slam to key the big inning. Ava Fisch and Goodwin also added an RBI. Sigourney is now 10-6 on the year, Montezuma falls to 5-13.
The boys contest was also lopsided, a 13-0 victory in just four innings. The Savages improve to 9-1 on the season.
