The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved setting the date of a public hearing for a bond refinancing at their meeting Tuesday.

County Auditor Dan Widmer explained that this general obligation bond with a principal amount not exceeding $11 million is for Washington County Hospital and Clinics. These bonds were previously issued in 2015 and refinanced in 2016. Scott Crist of UMB Bank comments on the previous bond issue, “There was significant savings for the hospital from doing that bond refunding, but right now we’re in a really historically low interest rate environment and the hospital has the opportunity to lower their debt service payments even more, and generate savings of about $600,000 by refinancing bonds at this time.”

The board set July 6th as the date for a public hearing. In other business, the board approved appointing Noah Schlabaugh to the position of deputy sheriff for a period of three and a half years from May 25th.
