Our next stop on the KCII Big Red Radio Summer Town Tour is Saturday when Kalona welcomes everyone to their annual Kalona Days celebration. This year’s theme is Community Heroes. Saturday starts with the 5K and fun run at 7a.m. the farmer’s market at 9a.m. a book signing at the Kalona Public Library at 1p.m, the parade at 4p.m. on C Avenue and then activities shift to the KCTC lot for food vendors, kid’s games, Mid-Prairie alumni awards, optimist bike giveaway and live music from Aces and Eights. This week, Kalona Days organizer Olivia Kahler talked with KCII News about planning for this year’s event and the schedule. “We have been planning since our March Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Meeting. So the Board of Directors is made up of about a dozen people and the Kalona Days committee within that is about five of us. We have been planning and looking for volunteers within the community and local businesses and organizations to help with this year’s event. This year’s theme is Hometown Heroes to honor all the work that they have done for our community over the last year. We do have a time change this year, we pushed everything to the afternoon and evening. I’m also just excited to be able to get people together and get that feeling of community back that we missed last year and see the downtown in action.”
A full schedule of events is available on the Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce website and at KCIIradio.com. The KCII Big Red Radio will be on scene playing music and making announcements from 3-6p.m.
