As the Washington County Fair Board gets ready for a full week of 4-H shows and entertainment this July, they recently received a spring small grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
The fair association received $5,000 for security cameras at the fairgrounds. Fair Board Secretary Tina Montz says they installed 13 cameras last fall as they had issues of vandalism over the last few years, and they have decided to install a few more for safety and security reasons. Montz says the riverboat foundation has been a big help to the board, especially with a $75,000 grant they previously received for their new cattle barn, “We try hard to keep our fair affordable for families but yet keeping up to date with technology with cameras and things like that, but also we don’t want to drain all of our sponsors that we use for our entertainment for the fair. And so to have this other avenue of sponsorship to help with these larger projects sometime is really fantastic and we are really grateful for the riverboat foundation and all that they’ve done over the last years.”
Montz says the total cost of installing the cameras was around $10,000. The riverboat foundation gave a total of $122,799 across 27 small grants this spring.
