Senator Charles Grassley has given no indication yet on whether he’ll run for reelection in 2022, as a poll published over the weekend showed that 64% of Iowa voters think it’s time for someone else to fill his seat.
The same poll showed that 27% said they’d vote to elect Grassley to an eighth term. When asked what he thinks of the poll results, Grassley tells KCII that he feels the same as he did a few months ago, and that he will make a decision on whether to run again as late as early November, “I don’t know whether people realize I got to the office at 6 o’clock this morning. I will probably leave at 6:30 this evening after the last vote. I enjoy my work, every day that we’re in session I’m here voting.”
Grassley would have some opponents to face for reelection, as District 3 State Senator Jim Carlin and former Crawford County supervisor Dave Muhlbauer have each announced runs for the Republican and Democratic primaries, respectively. Grassley, who turns 89 years old in September, was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1980.
