The Kalona Classic Car Cruise is back for its second year.

After debuting last summer amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Kalona Mayor Mark Robe and the Optimist Club of Kalona are sponsoring a showcase of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. With many events being shut down last year, Mayor Robe wanted to create an event that people could enjoy while also maintaining health guidelines. Now making its second appearance, there’s a hope to make it bigger this year. He hopes this year will have an even bigger turnout,

“We had 65 cars last year. I’d like to top that this year, I’d like to see 100 or more. I think that would be awesome. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve had a lot of people ask me if we’re doing it again. So, you ask and we’ll do it again.”

For those who may not know too much about cars, there’s an opportunity to come talk with the vehicle owners at the end of the cruise in the KCTC lot.

“Those guys will talk to you about their cars until you walk away from them. They love talking about their cars and showing them off.”

The cruise will begin this Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Sinclair Tractor Store. A full layout of the driving route can be on the City of Kalona, Iowa’s facebook page.
