Farmers in southeast Iowa that received hail damage earlier this week are invited to attend an event hosted by ISU Extension and Outreach this Monday.

Extension Field Agronomist Rebecca Vittetoe shares that a hail meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the FFA plots at Pekin Schools in Packwood, “We’re going to be hosting a meeting just to kind of go over with farmers on how to assess that type of damage. Most of the corn we’re kind of past the point of we’d probably consider replanting the corn, but some bean fields depending upon the damage that we had that might be a consideration there. So we’ll talk about how do we make that assessment? How do we make that determination if we should or shouldn’t do that?”

Vittetoe adds the meeting will also cover topics of weed management and fungicides, and Ag Farm Management Specialist Charles Brown will also be on hand to talk about crop insurance considerations. In case of rain the meeting will be held inside Pekin schools, and registration is not required for this free event.
