The second meeting in a week for the Sigourney and Keota summer teams looked a lot like the first on Friday with the Keota baseball team making a statement and Sigourney softball squad not letting up.
The baseball game was scoreless until the fourth when the Eagles put up a crooked number of six that paved the way to an 8-1 victory. Colten Clarahan no-hit the Savages a week prior and this time threw another complete game gem giving up one run on three hits and striking out 13. The offense recorded nine hits led by Carson Sprouse going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Cade Streigle had two of Sigourney’s three knocks and had the lone RBI. Bo Schmidt suffered the loss throwing four frames giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks. The Savages are now tied with Lynnville-Sully for the South Iowa Cedar League lead with a 10-3 mark and 13-4 overall. Keota improves to 8-5 in conference and 10-6 overall.
The softball game was all Savages from the start and they handled business in a 13-0 victory in five innings. The team had eight hits and 11 free passes with Macy Fisch going 3-for-4 with three RBI and Raegan Rozenboom also brought in three tallies. Carly Goodwin gave up just one hit and two walks in five pitched frames where she struck out 12 batters. Sigourney moved to 12-1 in league play and like the baseball squad, they are tied with Lynnville-Sully at the top of the SICL. Keota drops to 0-13 in the conference and 0-14 overall. The Savages turned around and went 2-0 in a Saturday tournament at Moravia where they beat the host Mohawks 12-0 and Centerville 2-0.
