The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams welcomed Wapello to Kalona on Monday. The Raven baseball team won a pitcher’s dual 3-0. Hillcrest got up with two runs in the first and added another insurance run in the fourth. That was more than enough for the Raven pitching and defense led by Noah Miller on the mound, working six innings, walking five and striking out 10. Luke Schrock pitched the seventh for the save, striking out two. The Raven duo allowed just one hit in the contest. Offensively, Eli Ours and London Schrock each drove in one. With the win, Hillcrest is now 8-6 on the season.

The Raven softball team was beaten in both ends of their doubleheader with the Arrows by 10-0 and 16-3 scores. Aliyah Lolling controlled things in the opener for Wapello, throwing a five inning, shortened complete game, one hit shut out while striking out two. Wapello scored five in the first, three in the second and two more in the fifth. In the nightcap, the Arrows again started fast with two in the first, one in the second and three each in the third and fourth innings to build a 9-0 lead. The Ravens broke through with three runs in the bottom of the fifth before seeing Wapello score seven unanswered to close the game. After the sweep, Hillcrest is now 0-18 on the year and will meet Winfield-Mt. Union Tuesday.
