The Domestic Violence Intervention Program announced this week that they will be closing three of their offices in southeast Iowa.
Over the next month, due to lack of federal funding, the Mount Pleasant, Keokuk, and Burlington locations will be closing their physical office spaces. Director of Community Engagement Alta Medea-Peters tells all community members not to worry because there will still be help available, “All of our services, which include everything from our 24/7 hotline to safety planning, advocacy working with law enforcement, medical and social services, trauma informed one-on-one counseling, emergency pet sheltering, counseling mobile advocacy, resourcing gathering, housing assistance, preventive education and community presentation remains 100 percent open to those in need.”
The DVIP said the decision was necessary to preserve staff and services in these areas and that they are still committed to providing service to all community members. All services and advocates are available anytime and can be reached by calling 1-800-373-1043.
