It was close, but no cigar for the Lone Tree summer teams on Monday when they welcomed Pekin to town and lost a pair of Southeast Iowa Super Conference contests.
The softball game was a pitcher’s duel with the Lions holding a 2-1 lead for much of the game until the Panthers (8-15) plated two in the sixth to prevail 3-2. Arlie Lorack did her part in the circle by tossing a complete game giving up three runs on six hits and striking out two. The offense could muster up only three hits from Ellen Carow, Kayleigh Rundlett, and Skylar Smith. Alex Dautremont and Hogan Eden each brought in a run. Lone Tree falls to 8-14 overall and 4-9 in the division.
The baseball contest had a little more action with both teams trading six run innings and Pekin (12-7) emerged with an 11-9 victory. Pekin had 11 hits with Mason Juhl going 3-for-5 with three RBI. The Lions are now 7-11 and 5-6 in the league.
