The City of Wayland’s Fourth of July celebration is making a return after having to cancel last summer’s events.
With the fourth falling on a Sunday this year, all festivities will take place Saturday. The Wayland Lions Club Breakfast will kick off the day at 6:30 a.m. at the Wayland Community Center. Registration and line-up for the parade will begin at 9:30 with the parade beginning at 10:30 on Main Street. Lunch will be served following the parade at WACO High School. Afternoon activities for the whole family include firefighter water games on Main Street and a scavenger hunt. The West Park Wetlands Grand Opening will start at 4:30 with free hot dogs, drinks and cake being served. Wayland Deputy Clerk JulyAnne Millspaugh explains why this grand opening has a little more behind it, “This is to recognize the donors that have given to our splash pad and walking path. We’ll also honor Mayor Greg Rich and his mother will be out there to honor him and do a ribbon cutting for him. We’ll be doing changing of the chiefs, Ron Roth is retiring and Dustin Stuelke will be taking over. Then we’ll have the splash pad open.”
Stuelke is taking over as police chief as Roth retires after serving in the position for nearly 20 years. A fireworks show will wrap up the day at dusk at the WACO school football field. KCII will be broadcasting live from 8-11:30 a.m. in Wayland as part of the Big Red Radio Summer Town Tour.
