The Washington Demon baseball team traveled to Fairfield Thursday and returned with a split against the rival Trojans. Fairfield scored a come-from-beind victory in game one 5-4 while the Demons controlled game two with a 14-0 win. In a pair of games heard on AM and FM KCII, Washington built a 4-0 lead in the first contest with single runs in each of the first four innings. Ethan Patterson opened the scoring, coming home on a Lucas Kroll RBI single the first frame, Patterson came home again in the second, after doubling, on an Ethan Zieglowsky RBI single to make it 2-0 Demons. In the third Kole Williams barreled up a solo homer to raise the margin to 3-0 and in the fourth it was Patterson scoring his third run of the night when Zieglowsky cracked another RBI single. The lead would not prove to be enough as the Trojans rallied late. Brad Smithburg cranked a solo shot in the fourth, followed by a Nate Smithburg three run homer in the fifth to tie the game. The Trojans would then walk it off in the seventh on Nate Smithburg’s RBI single that drove in Connor Lyons. Patterson and Kroll led Washington at the plate with three for four night’s in game one combining for three runs and an RBI. Zieglowsky took the loss on the mound, throwing the complete game, giving up 11 hits and striking out five.

The Demons got their revenge in the nightcap, rolling to a 14-0 win that ended in the top of the fifth inning. Washington built an early lead, but put things out of reach with a 10 run fourth frame. All nine Demons in the starting lineup scored a run, eight of the nine had a hit and six of the nine had an RBI. Kroll was a perfect four for four with two RBI and two runs scored. Wilx Whittoft finished three for four with a pair of RBI and runs scored. Zeke Slagel was the winner on the mound, going the distance, surrendering just one hit and striking out 10. With the split, The Demons are now 13-9 on the year, 9-8 in the Southeast Conference and will host Mid-Prairie Friday.
