The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team takes the field in Wellman Monday for Senior Night as they take on rival Iowa City Regina. The Hawks enter the game with an overall record of 16-6 after a 5-4 loss at Washington on Friday. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 7 in this week’s poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. For the year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .349 as a team, top five in class 2A, and have a combined ERA of 3.73. Individually, Mid-Prairie is led by Aidan Rath hitting .500 with 34 total hits, 33 RBI 30 runs scored and 11 homers. He is one of three Hawks, along with Karson Grout and Kayden Reinier that are hitting over .400 on the season. On the mound Keegan Gingerich is 4-1 with a 4.94 ERA, Alex Bean is 3-0 at 3.75 and Rath is 3-1 with a 1.20ERA.
Iowa City Regina is 12-11 on the season. Last time out they beat Benton Friday 8-4 behind a 3/5 night and two RBI from Kyle Schooley. For the year, the Regals are hitting .249 as a team with a staff ERA of 3.38. Individually, Regina is led by Danny Gavin with a .397 average, with 23 hits, 20 runs scored and 11 driven in. On the mound, Kyle Schooley is 3-1 in 28 innings with a 2.96 ERA. Adam Connell is 4-2 with a 3.55 mark. These teams met a season ago with Mid-Prairie taking a 15-0 win in Iowa City. The Hawks have won the last two in the series with Regina winning eight of 10 overall.
Mid-Prairie will honor their senior class of Aidan Rath, Kayden Reinier, Keegan Gingerich, Vinny Bowlin, Nathan Quinby, Keegan Brady and Jake Swartzendruber, along with the 2020 state tournament team.
