The Washington Farmers’ Market is well underway this summer with new vendors, featured food trucks, special programs, and expanded services to those with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

The Double Up Food Bucks program is available at the Washington Farmers’ Market. To participate, residents need to bring their SNAP EBT card to a participating location and for every dollar spent on fresh fruits and vegetables you will get $1 in Double Up Food Bucks. Those dollars can be spent right away or saved for another visit. Main Street Washington Director Sarah Grunewaldt says the market wasn’t able to distribute the Double Up Food Bucks last year, “This year we’re able to actually process SNAP cards and give away the double up food bucks certificates. So I expect to see that we’ll start to see more of that roll through the market. So if you’re on food stamps/SNAP benefits, you can now use those benefits at the market by trading in some SNAP for tokens and then you spend them at the retailers.”

Families can also get a free children’s book at the Washington Farmers’ Market as they are partnering with local businesses to give out 100 books weekly. The farmers’ market takes place Thursdays from 5-7:30 p.m. through October 14th in Central Park.
