A relentless Oskaloosa offense translated to a tough day at the office for the Washington softball team on Thursday, as their season came to a close with an 8-3 loss in the first round of the class 4A regionals.

As heard on KCII, the Demons got the start they wanted by plating a run in the first after Kellie Dallmeyer doubled and Ella Greiner brought her home on a two-out single. The Indians (20-14) did not trail for long by smashing five hits in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead and two more in the second opened a 5-1 advantage. The orange and black received new life in the fifth by scoring twice on a RBI groundout from Ava Turner and Emmy Wenger singled to plate Cameron Malichky. The Indians went right back to work by answering with two in the bottom half and one more in the sixth to finish off Washington. Oskaloosa finished with an impressive 17 hits led by Faith DeRonde going 4-for-4 and the junior tossed a complete game in the circle. Washington had eight knocks led by Dallmeyer, Greiner, and Emma Herr each with two. Bella Salazar tossed one plus inning giving up five runs and eight hits while Halle Cuddeback threw the rest of the game surrendering three tallies and nine base hits.

The Indians advance to tomorrow’s semifinal round at #6 Norwalk. The Demons conclude the campaign 20-17 and say goodbye to three seniors in Dallmeyer, Herr, and Malichky.
