The Washington County 4-H Communications Night was held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Fifty-three 4-H’ers gave educational presentations and five participated in the extemporaneous speaking division. 4-H prides itself on developing good communicators. This is one activity to build those skills.
Junior Presentations:
Advancing to the Iowa State Fair are Emma Alderton of the Jackson Jets and her presentation “4-H History” and Caedyn Huston of the Limecreek Livewires with his presentation “Washington County, Iowa – Where the Tall Corn Grows”. Sophia Puttmann of the Limecreek Limelights was chosen as the State Fair Alternate for her presentation “Archery”. Elijah Puttmann of the Limecreek Livewires was awarded the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice for his presentation “Dinosaur Groupings”.
Intermediate Presentations:
Advancing to the Iowa State Fair are Peighton Ford of the Limecreek Livewires and her presentation “The History of the Butter Cow” and Grace Puttmann of the Limecreek Limelights with her presentation “World of Books.” Puttmann was also awarded the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice Award. Hunter Robertson of the Limecreek Livewires and his presentation “The Wild World of Boer Goats” was selected as the State Fair Alternate.
Senior Presentations:
Riley Hahn of the Limecreek Livewires was chosen to represent Washington County at the Iowa State Fair. Roy Carter of the Jackson Jets and his presentation “Behind the Scenes: Different Stages of Making a Movie” was also chosen for the State Fair, as well as awarden the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice Award. Anna Nafziger of the Limecreek Limelights with her presentation “Livestock Judging” was selected as the State Fair Alternate.
Extemporaneous Speaking:
During the Extemporaneous Speaking contest, participants draw a topic, have 30 minutes to write a 4-6 minute speech, and then deliver it to an audience. Zoey Dennler of the Horse and Pony Club and Ally Rees of the Green Acres 4-H Club were selected to represent Washington County in this division at the Iowa State Fair. Rees also received the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice Award.
