The expansion of Madison Park in Washington has been taking shape this summer.
The city acquired the property north of Madison Park located on the corner of East Madison Street and South 2nd Avenue, and so far the alley in between the two properties has been closed and a sidewalk path and pad has been poured in the new addition. Mayor Jaron Rosien says patience is appreciated as landscaping and grass seeding are expected to be done by late August. Rosien says this project has been years in the making, continuing the work made by the city’s tree committee to build the original park, “I’m glad they had the vision to do so and that we’ve been able to carry that vision forward and expand the park. Because of its location it’s not a park that would be appropriate for playground equipment where it’s on such a busy street. But it is perfect for benches and a little pavilion for people to stop and have lunch, or pause on a walk and use the park in its own unique way that exists because of its location.”
The city plans to install benches, a picnic table, pavilion, street lamp, and flagpole in the new addition. Rosien says he’s excited to see what the next 30-60 days brings for Madison Park as well as the next few years for this amenity.
