You can express your own visual creativity or take someone else’s home to enjoy during the Washington Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Artfest this evening in Central Park.
In support of the mural being painted off site to later be placed on the State Theatre this week, the Chair-a-Thon auction will take place at 6 p.m. at the bandstand with registration beginning at 5. Around 30 uniquely redecorated chairs have been submitted for the auction, and proceeds go to support the State Theatre mural and future murals commissioned by the chamber’s art committee. Artfest will also include free art activity booths from 5-7:30 p.m. hosted by several local businesses and organizations. Chamber Event Coordinator Alisha Davis shares a few of the activities to enjoy, “Atlas Molded Products are doing some flowers that they make with their foam, so you can decorate them and then they’re going to do a contest. And then we’re having the library doing a big color-by-number mural type project, and Studio on the Square will be doing a really cool stencil project where they’re laying out different landscapes in Washington and everybody can kind of color them in.”
The mural is expected to be completed by Saturday, and was supported by the Washington County Riverboat Foundation and Washington hotel/motel tax funds.
