The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team worked hard on the field and in the classroom this spring, and they’re receiving recognition from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. Six members of the 2021 Golden Hawks were named to various academic all-state teams in class 1A.

Junior Gunnar Gingerich was a second team academic all-state pick at midfield. He ended the year with seven goals and three assists.

Five Golden Hawks were honorable mention academic all-state selections. Senior Aaron Slaubagh was recognized at midfield. He finished with two goals and one assist for the year. Junior Riley Yoder was also chosen at midfield. The Mid-Prairie defense had three honorable mention selections including senior Ethan Trimpe, junior Jack Pennington, and junior Jarrett Hoffman. Those three helped anchor a Golden Hawk defense that surrendered just 22 goals in 16 matches including eight shut outs. To go along with their great defensive efforts, Trimpe had nine assists, sixth most in the River Valley Conference. Pennington put up 14 goals, seventh most in the RVC, and had six assists. Hoffman had two goals and one assist. The Golden Hawks climbed as high as No. 4 in the class 1A poll, ending the season in the substate final. They posted an 11-5 overall record.

In order to be selected, athletes must have participated in more than half of the team’s varsity halves and achieved a GPA of greater than 3.50.
