From the beginning of the Southeast Iowa Superconference, only one man has held the top administrative position in the league, and this weekend he retired from his duties. Don Lamm has resigned his position as Executive Secretary of the Superconference, a spot he held since the birth of the league in 1991. Lamm spoke with KCII Sports about how the conference started, how he became the executive administrator and his time in the role. “I handled all of the conference-wide activities. The basketball shoot out, the track meets, wrestling meets and music performances. The Board of Control which are the Superintendents have the final say. Dennis Jandrey, who for a long time was the volleyball coach at Mediapolis and has a lot of experience in the conference during those years will take over the position. He served on different committees in the conference and we’ve been working on a transition. He’ll do a great job he’s got a lot of experience. The schools that were involved in the formation of the conference had the idea for the league. They wanted to put together a conference with divisions. At that time, in 1989, I was coming to Mt. Pleasant to be Athletic Director. Early on we had different divisions and activities. We started with four divisions, then three, now we have two divisions and 17 schools. At the junior high level they are pretty consistent with four divisions. The basketball shoot out we have was something that was added later and has been a great activity for us. The best part of working with everyone is all of the schools and administrators have all been interested in what’s best for the conference.”

The transition officially occurred on August 1st. Former Mediapolis volleyball coach and Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame member Dennis Jandrey now holds the position. Jandrey was the head man on the sideline for the Bullettes from 1987 to 2012. He was named Superconference Coach of the Year 11 times, IGCA district coach of the year three times, took MEPO to state five times on his watch and finished with a 746-189-48 record. The Superconference is home to six KCII area schools including Hillcrest Academy, Lone Tree, Highland, Columbus, Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO.
