The seventh biggest story for Hillcrest Academy athletics from the last year, really spanned the better part of the last five. Raven senior Eli Ours put together one of the most impressive athletic profiles in the history of the school, across multiple sports.
On the basketball floor, Ours appeared in all 83 games played during the course of his four years. He started 79 of those at guard. He was a part of 58 wins, including a 21-4 season as a freshman where the Ravens made a class 1A substate appearance. Ours finished third in school history with 237 steals, fourth with 1,187 career points, fifth with 139 made three point goals, sixth with 292 assists and made 420 field goals during his career.
On the soccer pitch, Ours started on defense in all 52 matches that were played during his time at Hillcrest. He was part of a pair of state tournament teams in 2018 and 2019, the first appearance in Des Moines for the Ravens since 2000. Ours was a part of 39 wins in his time at Hillcrest. He was part of a defense that posted 20 shut outs during his time for the maroon and black, while also scoring two goals.
On the baseball diamond, Ours appeared in 89 games during his five years of eligibility, starting 82 of them. As an eighth grader and freshman he was on Raven squads that were district champions and made substate appearances. Ours finished third in school history with 59 career stolen bases in 62 attempts, fifth with 66 career walks, and eighth with 90 runs scored. On the mound he worked 117 and two thirds innings, 10th most in program history while posting a 2.61 ERA, 10th best in Hillcrest history and finished with 146 strikeouts, fifth most for a career.
In total, Ours was a part of 228 athletic contests at Hillcrest and contributed to a 150-78 record in those games with a 58-29 record in basketball, 53-36 record in baseball and 39-13 record in soccer. His team’s made five substate finals and two state tournaments.
