The sixth biggest sports story at Hillcrest Academy in the recently concluded year takes us to the soccer pitch. The Raven boys soccer team turned things on mid-season to reach the championship game of the Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament and finish the year with a 9-6 overall record.
After a 1-2 start to the year that saw them outscored 12-5, the Ravens turned it on with a 4-2 stretch in the middle of the year going into the Superconference tournament, posting wins over Cedar Valley Christian, Wapello, Tipton and Danville. Once into the tournament, the Ravens began a revenge tour, beating Columbus 1-0, who had beaten them earlier in the season, and scoring a 3-1 victory over Mediapolis, who had also beaten the Ravens previously in 2021. The Ravens were beaten in the title game of the Superconference tournament by eventual state champion Burlington Notre Dame, but they would rebound with a Senior Night shut out over Washington 2-0 and a 2-0 win over Central Lee, another team they had lost to during the year, before falling in the second round of the 1A playoffs to Notre Dame.
