The top 10 countdown of the best sports stories for Washington from the 2020-21 academic year continues today with #8 on our list. The eighth best story takes us to the softball diamond when one senior ended her career with a bang.
Kellie Dallmeyer has been a staple in the Demon softball program for several years and it all led up to a record setting senior campaign. No one in a Demon uniform has hit more home runs in a season than Dallmeyer’s eight this summer. Her .529 batting average ranked fifth in class 4A and her 64 hits was third. The four-year starter recorded a .621 on base percentage, had 27 extra base knocks, scored 48 times, brought in 43 runs, stole 17 bags, and threw out 11 base runners as a catcher. These numbers led to a first team all state selection by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and she was also named academic all state. The senior helped lead a young Washington team to a 20-17 season.
Dallmeyer will continue her softball career next year at the University of St. Thomas, a division I college in St. Paul, Minnesota. Check back in tomorrow for number seven on our countdown when we travel to the gridiron.
